Art Therapy

I use art because it keeps people in the present moment long enough to rewire the brain.

Art-making uses creativity to facilitate change, emotional growth and wellbeing. It is powerful and unique in its ability to act as a safe container and vehicle for unconscious material to surface for recognition, reflection and a deep exploration of the Self.

The creative process engages people on all levels (emotional, physical, mental and spiritual).

They can then witness what is not working by seeing challenges in new and unexpected ways. Through the trust of the therapeutic relationship, we can work to shift and expand on these new perceptions. This process can be intimidating for some, who think, “I’m not an artist” or “I can’t draw”. Great, then you have no preconceived idea of what something “should” look like. Once you get comfortable with the process, you will learn to let go.

Individuals

I work with children, youth and adults because I believe a person’s journey towards greater overall health can begin at anytime.

Our brains are highly adaptive and the ability to learn continues throughout our lifetime. This growth is enhanced with commitment and focus. It is important to give ourselves the time to attend to our internal dysregulation and automatic thoughts in order to bring about greater awareness and make change.

Families

I want to help parents build confidence so that they can raise confident and compassionate kids.

My approach is to work together to deconstruct a family system that is not serving you and to rebuild a system where all parties are heard, seen and understood. For parents, it is about knowing themselves and working together to uncover their needs and strengths as well as their children’s, so that healthy connections are made and a new environment for growth is initiated.
