Counselling
Understanding oneself and having the ability to connect with others is a conduit for greater overall well-being.
When we can pay attention to our thoughts and work towards a regulating our emotions, we can form new neural pathways, maintain healthy relationships and make room for healthy insights and habits.
Individuals
I work with children, youth and adults because I believe a person’s journey towards greater overall health can begin at anytime.
Our brains are highly adaptive and the ability to learn continues throughout our lifetime. This growth is enhanced with commitment and focus. It is important to give ourselves the time to attend to our internal dysregulation and automatic thoughts in order to bring about greater awareness and make change.
Families
I want to help parents build confidence so that they can raise confident and compassionate kids.
My approach is to work together to deconstruct a family system that is not serving you and to rebuild a system where all parties are heard, seen and understood. For parents, it is about knowing themselves and working together to uncover their needs and strengths as well as their children’s, so that healthy connections are made and a new environment for growth is initiated.
Modalities
I apply neuroscience along with a variety of therapeutic modalities specific to working through trauma, healing relationships, body awareness and calming the nervous system.
I am not a strong believer in the “one size fits all” therapeutic approach. I use what is presented in session as a guide and infuse different modalities as they are needed in the moment. These include:
Why Seek Counselling?
The pace at which our world is moving, the demands of everyday life and the amount of information coming at us, we are rarely truly present in our lives. Between the pressures at work and the expectations in our personal lives, we often function in a state of anxiety about the future or frustration/regret about the past. The pandemic, the environment, financial stress and the cultural glorification of working ourselves to the bone is catching up with us and affecting our families and our relationships with ourselves and our communities. When we can bring ourselves back to the present with intention, we can make room for connection and emotion. We can pay attention to our thoughts and work towards better understanding and regulating our emotions. I believe we can change our lives for the better when we can rewire our brains and make room for new insights and habits.
Counselling and art therapy can do this.
I invite you into a practice that can promote wellness and growth…
People seeks counselling for a variety of reasons. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, sadness, relationship struggles etc. As much as we want to and try different strategies to feel better, we can develop coping patterns, defenses and habits that are not always helpful. Certainly, these habits and thoughts have served a purpose in the past. Likely, they were developed to keep us safe. But knowing this is not truly supporting your mental health, ask ourselves, do I still need these? Can I let them go? Or can I put them on the shelf and make room for new growth, healthy routines and positive beliefs? Can I move forward, and focus on pursuing passions, dreams and relationships that are healing?
